What brings you joy?
What’s the first thing that springs to mind if I ask you what brings you joy? Have a little ponder on it. Some years ago I wrote a list of things that I loved doing. By creating that list a sprinkling of mini seeds were planted in my mind that steadily over the years have grown, some more than others.
For example I’ve always loved to dance. I spend the majority of my day listening to music, creating playlists at any opportunity and feeling deeply moved by watching dance videos. A couple of years ago I saw one of my favourite choreographers, Yanis Marshall, was coming to Barcelona. Cut to me feeling 100% out of my depth surrounded by a room full of professional dancers. I may have felt like a bit of a dick but the amount of respect I had for dancers grew monumentally. When I moved back into Barcelona city one year ago I joined a class called ‘sexy style’. I was on a mission to connect back to my sensuality and this seemed just the ticket. One year later it’s been a weekly constant in my life. This class has helped me to uncover the parts of myself I want to shy away from, in turn helping me to build my confidence, to learn a new sense of control and discipline within my body, oh and to learn choreography, no biggie!
I was chatting with my housemate Jade the other day about how fast life seemed to be at the moment. Weeks roll by so quickly. Since acclimatising to a more regular weekly schedule my evenings are a delicious feast of teaching, dancing, working out and seeing friends. I love it, but if I’m not careful I can roll from one thing to another without stopping to pause. Jade made the point that life goes by quickly when you’re having fun, oh what a true reminder! It reminded me to appreciate how much seeking out the things that bring me joy has positively impacted my life. Also doing anything with consistency will yield results. One year of dancing and fitness classes and my body feels the strongest it’s ever been and I’m deeply appreciative to do things that make me feel more alive.
So I thought it might be nice to share five journaling points for you to think about when you want to connect to things that bring you joy.
What are your favourite things to do? Write freely without holding back, no idea is silly!
What makes you feel more alive? What makes you tingle from the inside out?
Out of the list of your favourite things when was the last time you did any of them? Write the dates next to each one.
From your list of favourite things what can you add into the next week? What can you do on a weekly basis?
If you feel any resistance make a note of it. Look into why you’re feeling resistance.
If you’d like to share what brings you joy below in the comments then please do. When people do things they love it totally changes their vibration and others become inspired. Let’s make the world more joyful my friends!
